Product Designer@Creedom
250+ product designers applied for a role I posted last week.
Going through every resume, every portfolio, every email took hours.
Most were good. Strong craft, solid Figma files, decent portfolios.
But most got rejected at the email level itself. For the same three reasons.
1. They applied to Creedom like it was any other company. "Dear Hiring Team." No mention of what we build. No mention of creators. The email could've been sent to 50 companies and probably was.
2. They showed craft, not thinking. Beautiful screens in the portfolio. No explanation of why. A designer who can make something look good is not the same as a designer who can decide what to build.
3. They never used the product. If you're applying to a product company, use the product first. One genuine observation about what's broken is worth more than three paragraphs about your background.
If you're applying for a design role anywhere, read the job post like a product brief.
Understand who the user is. Use the product. Show up with a take, not just a resume.
The role is still open. Applications are still coming in.
