We’re hiring an Applied AI Engineer, Document Intelligence & Agents at S45. At S45, we’re building an AI-native financial institution, starting with investment banking for the global mid-market. One of the hardest problems in front of us is making AI work reliably across messy financial documents. Not demos. Real PDFs, scans, filings, annual reports, financial statements, investor decks, diligence files, tables, footnotes, contradictions, and missing data. This role is for someone who wants to build the core intelligence layer behind that. You’ll work on document parsing, OCR, table extraction, hybrid retrieval, citation systems, and agentic workflows for reasoning, verification, and report generation. Our engineering team is small but unusually dense. The 5 engineers on the team include ex-CTOs and founding engineers, so the bar for technical judgment, ownership, and speed is very high. Ideal profile: someone with around 5 years of experience across RAG, document AI, OCR, agentic systems, or production ML. That said, years are not the real bar. We are always open to exceptional people who can operate at this level. This is not a generic chatbot-on-PDFs role. The bar is whether the system is accurate, source-backed, reliable, and useful when the work is real.
